Caudat: Innovative Packaging Design Inspired by Ancient Mascots

Revolutionizing Coffee Packaging with a Unique Approach

Caudat, a Vietnamese brand known for its exceptional coffee, has taken a bold step in redefining packaging design. With their latest project, they have created a packaging system that not only showcases the artistry but also focuses on practicality and market appeal. Inspired by ancient mascots from various civilizations, Caudat's packaging design stands out with its unique and memorable style.

After extensive research on both Vietnamese and international packaging trends, Caudat realized that most packaging, especially for coffee, prioritizes artistic elements while neglecting practicality and market application. The goal of this project was to create packaging that not only catches the eye but also becomes easily recognizable and memorable through word-of-mouth.

The design team at Vu Agency, led by creative director Quyen Vu, drew inspiration from ancient mascots such as the owl, symbolizing wisdom in Greek mythology, the Great Sphinx of Giza, and Anubis, the Egyptian god. Additionally, the design style takes cues from the tattoos of the Samoan people, resulting in a visually striking and culturally rich packaging design.

The strength of Caudat's packaging lies in its ability to combine aesthetics, storytelling, and practicality. The packaging materials include paper, aluminum foil, polyester, and polyethylene, depending on the product size. The printing processes used are offset and flexography, ensuring high-quality and visually appealing results.

The packaging specifications vary based on the coffee weight. For 1kg packages, the total size is 45x78cm x 2, with a finished product size of 13.5 x 39 x 9cm. The 500g packages have a total size of 36.6x33 cm and a finished product size of 9.6 x 33 7.7 cm. The 250g packages share the same dimensions as the 500g ones. These specifications ensure that the packaging not only looks impressive but also functions effectively.

Caudat's innovative packaging design has received widespread acclaim. In 2021, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. Caudat's packaging design truly stands out for its ability to merge art, science, and technology.

By breaking away from conventional coffee packaging norms, Caudat has successfully created a packaging system that captivates consumers and sparks conversations. The clever use of familiar icons and mascots, along with the unconventional color combination of yellow and black, adds a distinctive touch to the design.
